Photo of the Day: Popping Up Green
Because it's been oddly warm lately, Portland is beginning to bloom like crazy. Trees are sprouting little buds. Grass is coming up. Flowers are beginning to bloom. It's madness. I'm worried it'll get cold again and everything will die. I realize everyone under 50 feet of snow hates me right now. What can I say? Come to the NorthWest!
When I first took this shot, I kind of hated it. It's dark. I had the aperture a bit high for the light. But it's grown on me. I like the ethereal quality of the greens. It almost glows.

The shot is beautiful. I wish we were starting to get buds over here! I can't really complain though, it's not like we're under a foot of snow. It's also supposed to get up to the 60s this weekend, so hurray! Happy Friday!
happy friday to you too! thanks!
I both love and hate this shot. I love it because it's fantastic and the texture is all kinds of nifty, but I hate it because I'm terribly jealous. Boston still burried under several feet of snow, and with the below freezing temps it feels like winter will never end.
ya know, i originally started following you because you write about portland...
and then, i discovered your wonderful photgraphy.
so it was a total win. : ]
Lauren- I understand. I do. hate away. or come visit the west coast! we welcome you!
Satan- AW! <3 you!
The photo: fab. Your awesome weather: fab. You: fab.
Too much fab in here.
aw. sweet. but I'll do my best to scale back the fab.
It's interesting that you say "high" aperture setting, given your shallow depth of field in this particular shot. I'm not sure that you meant "high" aperture setting (given that a closed-stop aperture would provide a greater depth of field), but I assume you meant you had not opened up enough stops to properly expose your subject?
But aren't these buds lovely! I love how lush and delicious the little bulbs are. It reminds me of Lorde's "Love Poem":
fingers whispering sound/
honey flowed/
from the split cups
I can't put my finger on it, but I love it. Something about the simplicity of the single bud.
I might move back to the west coast one day. Because the east coast is freezing.
Dana- I'm sorry. I'm a self-taught photographer so I probably have the terminology wrong.
lex- thank you so much! I know the east coast is freezing. I don't know how you do it. it gets cold here, but not like that!
Wow...what a gorgeous shot.
Those greens are so vibrant and lovely.
thanks so much, lady! <3
reminds of lord of the rings...don't ask me why, just does...
I love LOTR so I'll take it! <3
