Photo of the Day: Peony

Peony

Remember last week(ish) when I showed you that lovely Chrysanthemum that Eminem brought me? Well here's one of the peonies.

I ask you, is there anything more lovely than a peony? There's a reason that Feng Shui says to place peonies in the love corner of your bedroom. There's a reason that in the Chinese Opera, Peony Pavillion, a young girl falls asleep under peonies and has a dream that drives her to die of lovesickness.

You can have your long-stemmed roses. I'll take peonies, thanks.

Photo of the Day: Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum

A few weeks ago, Eminem and I celebrated three whole wonderful months together. Truth be told, I can't believe it's been only three months, but still. It's been lovely and I don't think either of us can believe just how lovely.

Anyway, homeboy brought me my favorite flowers for our date: Peonies and chrysanthemums. Seriously. What man remembers your favorite flowers and then brings you some? What man? I ask you. I'd never before met such a man.

This is one of the chrysanthemums. Is there a cooler flower? I love how explosive it looks while it's petals are soft and almost ethereal in opacity. Next time? The peonies!

Photo of the Day: Pretty Flower

I haven't done a photo of the day in a long while. In fact, I hadn't even taken new photos since the Fourth of July. I know! Who am I? Anyway, my roomie got some gorgeous lilies the other day and I was suddenly inspired to photograph again and I just went to town.

I like how soft and slightly out of focus this is. Gentle bokeh. Lovely late afternoon light. Le sigh.

Photo of the Day: Sliver of Focus

Let's play a game. Can you find the tiny part of this photo that's in focus?

Also: don't you just want to have sex in all that bokeh? Yummy.

Photo of the Day: Poppy

So it's not a red poppy, but it's purty anyhow.

In honor of Memorial Day, go check out my article at Sprocket Ink, A Poppy for My Pop.

Photo of the Day: Sun Shiny

yellow bokeh

Some sunshinyness for you this Tuesday! These little flowers really were this shiny. Don't you just love that?

Fun Fact: when I was shooting this, kneeling low in the grass too get the perspective I wanted and all that yellow bokeh, a lady walked by with her dog and told me he likes to pee there. Awesome. Damn dogs.

Photo of the Day: Mystérieuse

This is my new favorite flower, not to take the place of my love of peonies and chrysanthemums of course. It's just so vibrant and lush. The blossoms are HUGE and the trees end up looking like they're covered in big, pink butterflies. But I have no idea what it is.

Anyone want to enlighten me?

Here's a different angle:

Photo of the Day: Golden Afternoon

Lynnette and I took a nice walk the other evening to get dinner and on the way back, the light was just absolutely delicious. How could I resist capturing the many randomly growing flowers og my neighborhood being set on fire by the setting sun?

Photo of the Day: like color etched on canvas

Took this in my yard the other day. Do I even need to describe how pretty this is? The color is so deep and defined, the details so crisp.

*sigh*

I want to put this in my hair on a balmy summer night with kisses and kismet thick in the air.

Photo of the Day: Profile of a Rose

One of the absolutely, insanely gawgeous roses at The Farm. This one was particularly spectacular and I took like 10 shots of it. Don't you love the shades of pink and orange blending so softly? *sigh* I may become a rose lover after all.

Photo of the Day: Iris

At least I think this is an Iris. Anyone know? These are growing like crazy along the fence behind my little house and they're gawgeous and smell amazing too. One good thing about spring in Southern California, even though it's already too effing hot and making me miserable. But the flowers are just loverly.

Photo of the Day: Star

Took this last weekend as I sat in my little front yard reading in the warm, spring sun. This is a flower on my pomegranate tree. This tree flowers beautifully and I love that the flower looks like a fruit arrangement for a garden party. And the tree does bear fruit, but never ripe enough to eat. Any master gardeners out there know how to fix that? Eh fuck it. I'm moving in a couple months anyway.
